Beirut to Revisit the Golden Age of Arab Cinema and Tarab with “Angham Wa Aflam,” Led by Maestro Harout Fazlian

Beirut, August 29, 2026 – On September 24, MusicHall Beirut will host “Angham Wa Aflam,” a major live production celebrating the golden age of Arab cinema through the songs and melodies that helped shape its enduring legacy. Conceived and conducted by Maestro Harout Fazlian, the performance brings together the richness of tarab, the scale of a live orchestra and a new generation of voices in a contemporary reimagining of a repertoire deeply embedded in Arab cultural memory.

One of Lebanon’s leading conductors,Harout Fazlian will lead 24 musicians from the Lebanese National Orchestra for Oriental-Arabic Music in newly crafted orchestral arrangements that preserve the character and emotional depth of the original works while giving them renewed dramatic and symphonic presence on stage.

Joining the orchestra are four featured voices: Cindy Latty, Alia Nada, Peter Joseph and Mohammad Ali. Selected to carry this treasured repertoire forward, the singers will perform under Fazlian’s artistic direction, creating a bridge between the great voices of Arab musical memory and a new generation of performers.

“Angham Wa Aflam” draws on the worlds of some of Arab cinema and music’s most iconic figures, from Abdel Halim Hafez and Farid Al Atrache to Sabah and Shadia, among others whose work has transcended generations. Rather than simply revisiting the past, the production approaches this heritage with a fresh orchestral language, remaining faithful to its essence while giving it a vivid contemporary life on stage.

At its heart, the production is about more than revisiting beloved songs. It seeks to revive an entire cinematic memory — one shaped by music, image, storytelling and emotion. Through live orchestration, vocal performance and visual storytelling, “Angham Wa Aflam” evokes an era in which music and cinema were inseparable, together shaping a cultural imagination that continues to resonate across the Arab world.

The project is also conceived as a cultural initiative born in Beirut, celebrating Arab musical and cinematic heritage while introducing it to a new generation through emerging voices. In doing so, it also reaffirms Beirut’s enduring place as a city of art, culture and creative expression.

With 24 musicians, four featured voices and Maestro Harout Fazlian at the helm, “Angham Wa Aflam” promises an evening where memory, tarab, cinema and live music converge, bringing the splendour of Arab cinema’s golden age back to the stage through a distinctly contemporary lens.
